It’s football season, or as some of us like to call it, tailgating season. That time of year where you gather family and friends and park your RV for food, fun, and company. And football, of course. While most of us have plenty of experience in preparing the perfect tailgating party, we wanted to offer some friendly words of wisdom and tips for your next outing, just to get you started. If you would like some more friendly advice about tailgating or keeping your RV in company-ready shape, visit us at Lone Star RV in Houston, Texas.
As you’re planning your food and drink, keep track of other supplies you’ll need, including cooking ware, eating utensils, cups, napkins, and plates. If you’ve been doing this a while, you may have noticed there are certain things that always get forgotten: sunblock, garbage bags, bottle openers, among other things. As the host, you should be prepared to supply these things or make a quick trip to the local grocery store.
And finally, make sure your RV is serviced before the game, especially if it’s been in storage for a while. Check your appliances and generator to make sure they’re ready for the big day and fill your water tanks. You’ll also want to be aware of street traffic changes and tailgating policies at the facility you’re going to so you can be prepared to accommodate.
Sure, you aren’t in a lot of obvious danger when you sit outside an RV and watch football. But, like any RV experience, you’ll want to be prepared just in case. If you’re tailgating around other parties, you’re probably in a cramped space which creates its own concerns. Keep an eye out for quick evacuation routes should you need them. And there’s always a fire safety concern when cooking is involved, so make sure all your smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are working and up to date. Also, if you’re spending time outdoors, it’s worth investing in an extra canopy or overhang and wearing plenty of sunblock. Keeping everyone shaded and avoiding sunburns keeps health and morale up. On the flip side, make sure to also pack blankets and coats in case the temperature drops.
These are just a few ideas to get you started, but this is your party. Spruce it up, include new ideas we didn’t think of here, bring supplies we didn’t mention, the whole nine yards. Your RV will give you space and comfort to throw the best tailgating party around so why not take advantage of that? But don’t forget you’ll need to make sure everything in your RV is working.
